TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. — Officials from La-Z-Boy Inc. have confirmed that KMC Furniture LLC has purchased Kincaid Upholstery, located in Taylorsville, N.C. The sale is complete as of Jan. 30.
In a statement provided to Furniture Today, a La-Z-Boy company spokesperson noted that the sale aligns with statements from La-Z-Boy’s November earnings release.
“The furniture industry has experienced tremendous change and challenge in recent years, and we’ve remained agile while continuing to strengthen our execution,” said the spokesperson. “As announced last November, La-Z-Boy Inc. is sharpening its focus on our strengths as a vertically integrated, branded retailer and on our core La-Z-Boy Inc. businesses to position the company for continued profitable growth into the future.
“On Jan. 30, the company completed the sale of Kincaid Upholstery to KMC Furniture LLC. All existing employees of Kincaid Upholstery have been offered employment by KMC Furniture LLC. As stated in our November earnings release, we continue to evaluate strategic alternatives for the balance of our wholesale case goods business. For nearly 100 years, La-Z-Boy Incorporated has been delivering high quality, comfortable products, and we remain guided by our mission and consumer-first approach, continually evolving our product portfolio to delight consumers and support our long-term growth and success.”
According to information on the Alexander County, N.C., government website, the Alexander County Board of Commissioners approved an economic development incentive Jan. 5 for KMC Furniture LLC to support the purchase of the Taylorsville facility. Economic Development Director Michael Worley said that discussion with the company began in October 2025. The company currently employs 97 people.
“KMC Furniture will be locating its headquarters in the newly acquired Kincaid Upholstery company in Taylorsville, which will enable them to keep and strengthen the company in Alexander County,” Worley said. “The project includes approximately $2.6 million in capital investment and is anticipated to create five to seven new jobs.”
“We are excited about this opportunity as we continue to grow our business here,” said Max Dyer, president and CEO of KMC Furniture, said in comments to the board. “I would like to commend Mr. Worley, who has done a lot of good work for us. We appreciate his resourcefulness.”
